The card also shows John had a disembarkation date of 5th October 1914. The 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment arrived in Ypres nine days later, and participated in the 1st Battle of Ypres.

The Yorkshire Regiment website hosts a transcription of the Battalion Roll, with the names of the servicemen who disembarked in Belgium in October 1914. The list includes J Calvert, S/N 8420, with no date of death given. Furthermore, John Calvert is listed on the 1918 Absent Voters List for Middlesbrough, his residence given as 7 Bow Street, Acklam, which would suggest that this John Calvert survived the First World War.
